Men’s Hoops’ Alex Gross Named Co-OVC Newcomer of the Week

Following a statement performance vs. UT Martin on his Senior Day, Morehead State Men’s Basketball’s Alex Gross took home OVC Co-Newcomer of the Week honors Monday, the first time he’s won the Newcomer of the Week award. Gross was named OVC Player of the Week in late November.

In MSU’s two games this week, Gross averaged a double-double and four blocks per game. He posted 10 points and five rebounds with one rejection in Morehead State’s OVC Regular Season Championship-clinching win on Wednesday over EIU, before dominating the low post both offensively and defensively on Saturday afternoon vs. UT Martin. Gross had a monster game, nearly reaching a triple-double, with 16 points, 17 rebounds, and seven blocked shots. His rebounding total as well as his blocks total vs. the Skyhawks were both season high marks.

Gross has been a key factor for Head Coach Preston Spradlin’s squad all season long, and has been integral in the Eagles current hot streak heading into the OVC Tournament in Evansville. Morehead State has won 11 of the last 12 games. Gross and his teammates are back in action Friday night in the OVC Tournament Semifinals at the Ford Center in Evansville.
