This weekend’s softball series between Morehead State and Eastern Illinois at University Field has been rescheduled. The games, originally planned as a Saturday doubleheader and a single game on Sunday, will now feature one game on Sunday at 2:30 p.m., followed by a doubleheader on Monday starting at noon and continuing at 2:30 p.m.
The series marks the start of both the home season and Ohio Valley Conference play for Morehead State, which currently holds a 1-13 record after completing its non-conference schedule last weekend at the Eagle Hub City Classic in Hattiesburg, Mississippi.
Eastern Illinois enters the matchup as the defending OVC regular season and tournament champion. Last spring, Eastern Illinois swept Morehead State in three games played in Charleston, Illinois. The Panthers have a historical edge in the series with 56 wins to Morehead State’s 24.
Morehead State’s team statistics show improvement compared to this time last year. The team’s strikeout-to-walk ratio has shifted from -1.91 to +1.32, batting average has increased from .247 to .275, and fielding percentage has improved from .940 to .954.
MSU junior Ainsley Stubbs was recognized as the Ohio Valley Conference co-Pitcher of the Week on Monday after her performance at the Eagle Hub City Classic. Stubbs recorded a 1-1 record with a 1.66 ERA, posting a WHIP of 1.26 along with 13 strikeouts and seven walks over twelve and two-thirds innings pitched primarily in relief.
