Seven Eagles Named to Rifle All-OVC Teams as MSU Finishes Second

Seven Morehead State Rifle student-athletes earned spots on all-conference tams, including four on multiple teams, as the Eagles competed at the Ohio Valley Conference championships this weekend and finished second.

Morehead State fired a two-day, two-gun total of 4660, trailing champion Murray State – which totaled 4701. UT Martin, the event host this season, was third at 4609.

MSU had a pair of first-teamers as Grace Weber was First-Team Air Rifle and Bryce Ward was First-Team Smallbore. Weber was also named Second-Team Smallbore, and Ward earned Second-Team Air. It’s Ward’s second straight First-Team honor in Smallbore. Weber has now earned three consecutive First-Team Air awards.

Hayden Bell took home Second-Team Air Rifle and was also named to the Air All-Newcomer Team. Andrew Morris finished with Second-Team honors on both guns. Adrianna Beard was All-Newcomer for Air, while Cassidy Wilson and Holly Freeman picked up accolades for All-Newcomer Smallbore.

In Smallbore, contested Saturday, Ward was tops on the Eagles with a 584. Weber and Morris both carded 576. Wilson shot a 570, and Freeman had a 569.

In Air Rifle, shot on Sunday, Weber fashioned a 593 for third place among all shooters. Ward and Bell both hit on 588 for their totals, while Morris finished at 585 and Beard’s finale read 581.

Murray State swept the major awards with Freshman, Shooters and Coach of the Year.

MSU’s next action is the NCAA Qualifier match at Kentucky on Feb. 18.
