Building Improvement Grants Return
Building on 2021 successes, the City will be offering both commercial and residential improvement grants. Some eligible improvements include windows, fire safety, electrical, plumbing, façade work, storefront improvements, signage, cornice/roof repair, or a combination of repairs.
Main Street Director Caroline Reece is managing the commercial grants, which are for historic buildings in the Main Street district downtown or the Old Washington Historic District. The grant reimburses up to 50 percent of the cost of repairs. It has a $10,000 cap. Eligible building owners who apply for this grant could be reimbursed up to $10,000 on a $20,000 project.
Since these projects would involve historic properties, the owner would be required to work with the Board of Architectural Review to ensure the historic integrity of the property. The Main Street Director and Main Street Board will review and award the grants.
Residential façade grants will be administered by Codes Officer Nicole Brooks. Eligible improvements include, but are not limited to, window, roof, gutter and siding repair or replacement, masonry repair, tuck-pointing, and painting. Residential façade grants will reimburse the home owner 80 percent of cost up to $2,000. Residential grants will be awarded on a first come, first serve basis. Once all the funding is allocated, the program will end.
Applications and grant guidelines will be available online and at Maysville Municipal Building beginning Sept. 1 at noon.
