MSU Athletic Hall of Famer and Former MLB Standout Denny Doyle Passes Away

Former Morehead State baseball star and Athletic Hall of Famer Denny Doyle has passed away. Doyle, who was inducted into the Athletics Hall of Fame in 1989, was a long-time standout in Major League Baseball for the Phillies, Angels and Red Sox. He was 78.

Doyle, from Glasgow, Ky., originally, was a four-time All-Ohio Valley Conference honoree at MSU from 1962-65. He helped guide the Eagles to an OVC championship in 1963.

Doyle went on to a long career in professional baseball, first with the Philadelphia Phillies and culminating in 1975-77 with the Boston Red Sox. He helped lead the Red Sox to the American League title in 1975 and appeared in the World Series. Despite falling in seven games to the Cincinnati Reds, Doyle was the only player to get at least one hit in all seven games. The second baseman had a lifetime .250 batting average with 823 hits.

Following his playing career, he served as President of Doyle Baseball, helping thousands of youth with baseball skills.
