The season begins on Thursday, Aug. 31 when West Virginia State visits Jayne Stadium. The Yellow Jackets are a Division II program who finished 7-4 in the Mountain East Conference last fall. The Eagles and Jackets haven't played since 1996.
The Eagles will host Pioneer League foes Drake (Sept. 30), Dayton (Oct. 7), Butler (Nov. 4) and Davidson (Nov. 11). Road trips in the league are set for St. Thomas (Sept. 23) - a first-time foe - Valparaiso (Oct. 14), San Diego (Oct. 28) and Presbyterian (Nov. 18).
Homecoming 2023 is set for the weekend of Nov. 4.
MSU also faces two FCS scholarship programs in Mercer (Sept. 9) and Tarleton State. The Eagles opened the 2022 campaign at Mercer, traveling back to Macon, Ga., this fall. Tarleton State will host MSU on Oct. 21. The Texans are transitioning to Division I and play in the Western Athletic Conference for football. They were 6-5 in 2022.
